Descritption of Concrete Block masonry houses
This part of the system focuses on low-rise housing composed of concrete block masonry walls. Different structural systems are covered in this section. The discussion in the first document aims at achieving safe unreinforced masonry houses constructed from block units. However such type of masonry wall construction is not recommended and block walls should be reinforced or at least confined with tie-columns and bond beams. The traditional form of concrete block masonry construction is non-engineered, sometimes partially confined and/or reinforced. In the confined and reinforced documents in this section is provided information for new construction planning, design and detailing for achieving earthquake-resistance of this traditional construction.

It is important to note that this type of construction requires good quality control due to the amount of hidden work and use of concrete infill - grout and isolated reinforcement.
